Cassava (also known as manioc, yucca, and tapioca plant) is a tropical plant native to South America.

After being peeled and cleaned, the roots are air-dried and ground into a fine white powder. This powder, known as tapioca, has a distinct flavor and aroma and is a rich source of pure carbohydrates.‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ

Cassava root extract serves as an excellent source of fuel for athletes who need fast-acting carbohydrates. And because of its high molecular weight, it is easily digested and absorbed without causing gastrointestinal discomfort.

Red Spinach

Red spinach is a drought- and heat-tolerant vegetable that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to promote endurance and overall health & well-being.

It's unique because of its high concentration of nitrates, (NO3-). Red spinach contains 5x the amount of nitrates found in beetroot and 50x the amount found in beet juice.

Why is it in Oomph?

Endurance & Power.

The nitrates in red spinach are a vasodilator, which means they widen the blood vessels. By allowing more oxygen-rich blood to reach your heart and other muscles, your body is able to do more without having to work nearly as hard.

Nitrates have been shown to increase sprint speed, aerobic endurance, muscular power and explosiveness, all while reducing fatigue and RPE (rate of perceived exertion).‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎

And unlike beetroot juice, which takes 2-3 hours to kick in, the nitrates in red spinach are fully absorbed within 30-60 minutes.

Rhodiola rosea, an adaptogen also known as the "golden root," is a plant that thrives in harsh conditions. Growing natively in the cold, high-altitude regions of Europe and Asia, it is constantly exposed to stressors in the environment that make it resilient to things like wind, storms, and temperature.

Its medicinal use in these regions is long documented, with the Vikings using the root to enhance physical endurance and mental stamina for centuries.

Although its mechanisms of action are not completely understood, it is clear that rhodiola increases resilience to stress at both the cellular and systemic levels.

Rhodiola has been shown to calm the mind, reduce physical & mental fatigue, decrease burnout, blunt cortisol release under stressful conditions, and increase physical & mental performance in high-pressure situations.

Lion's Mane

Lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus) is an edible mushroom extensively found in East Asian countries including Japan and China. The mature mushroom is easily identifiable, consisting of a number of single, long, dangling fleshy spines which are white in color.

Increased Focus.

Tests analyzing the hippocampus (the region of the brain responsible for learning and forming memories) show that lion’s mane causes neurons in the brain to grow and establish new connections with other neurons.

‎‎This is particularly important for brain cells to sense their environment. In other words, lion’s mane seems to improve cognitive function, boost memory recall, and facilitate better decision making.

Electrolytes

Electrolytes are minerals that are essential for basic life functioning, such as maintaining electrical neutrality in cells, maintaining proper hydration, muscle and brain function, and nerve conduction.

Hydration.

The single biggest reason for muscle cramps and fatigue during play is dehydration caused by fluid and sodium loss. But if you only start getting electrolytes in your body once you start sweating, you’re already behind.

For athletes, a proper hydration strategy includes not only re-hydrating during and after intense physical effort, but also pre-loading with electrolytes beforehand.

This has been shown to improve performance significantly, especially in hotter temperatures.
